Begin climbing the stairs, and it will show that the wild Boar Shade is not far behind. Race to the top and enter the room and the Boar will continue right behind. This room is a continuation of the battle with the Wild Boar Shade. Continue with the same fighting methods, and halfway through its HP bar, Spears will come out of nowhere and pierce the Shade. The King of Facade and his Men of the Mask arrive to help out. Once the door is open, the Men of the Mask force NieR to the next corridor and seal themselves along with their fates with the Shade Boar, allowing NieR to progress towards the Shadowlord and leaving them to fight to their deaths.
The corridor will lead to a series of corridors and crates with recovery items so that NieR can replenish his health. Beyond the last doors, the twins will be there to greet NieR again. Fight them in the same manner as when they were first encountered.
When they are defeated, Devola will be the first to go and Popola will continue to fight. Emil uses his powers one last time to push NieR forward and sacrifices himself in the process. NieR will have to go through another few sets of corridors before entering the final room where he finally sees Yonah and the Shadowlord. He will enter another Boss fight sequence against Grimoire Noir, and then the Shadowlord.
Fight Grimoire Noir the same way Grimoire Rubrum was defeated. Use magic for ranged attacks when too far, and try to get close enough for melee attacks, because they are just as effective.

The dancers will slowly turn into Shades and all of them will eventually turn. After the first bull, another one will appear. Now, get ready to run all the way up the winding stairs. You will die if the bull catches up to you. If you dodge and then immediately press the light attack button, your character will charge attack and it sort of keeps the momentum. Then, the king from Facade and his men will help to stop the bull while you proceed to the next area.

The party meet the twins again just before the Shadowlord's room, where Devola is killed in the ensuing battle. Popola goes berserk and generates a blast that almost sucks them in, but Emil protects them with his magic and lets himself get caught in the blast. The final battle with the Shadowlord progresses in three stages: Grimoire Noir is first faced, then the Shadowlord himself. As Weiss loses his physical form, the battle reaches its final stage, where the Shadowlord assaults Nier with a barrage of orbs as a last-ditch effort.
Defeating her grants him the option to either put her at rest or sacrifice himself. The twins hand over documents related to Project Gestalt as a way to refresh Weiss's memory. The Phoenix Sword can be found in a box at the left of the door before encountering Devola and Popola.
